MLB Monday (April 5-11, 2021)

Here are your MLB highlights for the week of April 5-11, 2021:

  • OF Joc Pederson (Cubs) hit .211 (4-for-19) with a home run, 2 RBIs, and a .250 on-base percentage last week. After going hitless in his first 5 games of the season, Pederson strung together a 4-game hitting streak.
  • 3B Alex Bregman (Astros) hit .176 (3-for-17) with one RBI. This was a steep drop-off from the first week of the season, when he hit .500 with 2 HRs, a double, and 2 walks.
  • OF Kevin Pillar (Mets) hit .143 (1-for-7) with a walk, a stolen base, and a .250 OBP.
  • 1B Rowdy Tellez (Blue Jays) continued his struggles at the plate, going 0-for-13 with one walk, a hit-by-pitch, and 5 strikeouts. His 0-for-21 start is the worst in all of baseball.

On the mound

  • Richard Bleier (Marlins) made three appearances last week, going 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA, 2 holds, 2 hits, no walks and 2 strikeouts. Bleier was highly efficient in his final two games: in each one, he retired the side on just 7 pitches. According to CBS Sports, Bleier soon may get the opportunity to work as a closer.
  • Max Fried (Braves) lasted just two innings in an April 7 start against the Nationals, yielding 5 earned runs on 8 hits and a walk.
  • Dean Kremer (Orioles) earned a loss in his first start of the season, yielding 3 earned runs on 5 hits and a walk over 3 innings. He also struck out 5 but left the game with a 9.00 ERA.
