Here are your MLB highlights for the week of May 13-19, 2019:

Stats worth noting

  • Max Fried (Braves) is one of just four N.L. pitchers to reach 6 wins this season.
  • Two MLB Jews are among league leaders in home runs. Alex Bregman (Astros) is #2 in the A.L. with 14, and Joc Pederson (Dodgers) is tied for #3 in the N.L. with 14.
  • Bregman and Pederson also are among the most efficient home-run hitters. Pederson has homered once every 9.1 at-bats, #2 in the Majors behind Christian Yelich. Bregman is homering once every 11.4 at-bats, #11 in the Majors.
  • Overall, Jewish ballplayers continue to homer an unprecedented rate. They are on pace for roughly 190 HRs, well beyond the all-time record of 118, set in 2018.
  • Ryan Braun (Brewers) tied Hank Greenberg’s all-time HR record with his 331st shot. When Braun breaks the record, Jewish Baseball News’ Stat Records will recognize the feat, albeit with an asterisk.
  • Of all Major Leaguers with at least 100 at-bats, Bregman is one of just 9 to have at least as many walks as strikeouts.
